About VitaeKit

VitaeKit is a free, privacy-first resume builder. We ship a variety of professionally designed, ATS-friendly templates, a live editor, and one-click export to PDF (the format most ATS parsers handle best) or Microsoft Word. You can start editing anonymously — resumes live in your browser until you choose to create an account for cloud sync across devices.

Why we built it

Every existing resume builder we looked at made one of three bad trades: forced you to create an account before you could download anything, watermarked your PDF until you paid a subscription, or shipped templates that looked great on screen but fell apart the moment an Applicant Tracking System tried to parse them. We built VitaeKit to avoid all three.

Applying for a job is stressful enough. The tool you use to format your resume should not add friction, collect your data, or put a paywall between you and your PDF.

How our templates are tested

Every template keeps your content in a clear reading order, and every résumé exports to a single-column Word (.docx) file — the single most important factor for ATS parsing (our two-column designs flatten to one column on download). We test each template against the major Applicant Tracking Systems that cover the vast majority of hiring in our target markets: Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, Taleo, iCIMS, BambooHR, SmartRecruiters, and Recruitee. The goal is simple: when a parser extracts your experience, education, and skills, the extracted text should exactly match what’s on the page.

Where templates use visual embellishments (sidebars, colored accents, tile headers), we make sure those embellishments are CSS and typography only — never rasterized graphics or embedded images that ATS parsers would skip.

Who it’s for

VitaeKit is built for job seekers applying in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. We write our role-specific examples and formatting guidance against the conventions recruiters in those nine markets expect — US-style resumes in North America, UK/Commonwealth-style CVs in Europe and Oceania, and the mixed conventions common across the MENA region.

What’s free, and what isn’t

Building, editing, previewing, switching templates, and exporting to PDF or Word are all free. The free tier gives you the Classic template with a small “Made with vitaekit.com” watermark on downloads — enough to build and ship a real resume without spending a cent.

When you want more, our paid tiers are deliberately under what the big subscription builders charge. A 30-day pass to unlock a single template costs $5; all templates for 30 days costs $10. Both unlock customisation, photo upload, and watermark-free downloads. Compare that to Resume.io ($24/month), Zety ($24/month), or Novoresume ($20/month) — and theirs auto-renew until you remember to cancel. Ours don’t.

No subscriptions, no auto-renewal

Every purchase on VitaeKit is a one-time charge. Your 30-day pass expires on its own — nothing renews, nothing recurs, no card is kept on file to charge again later. If you want another month, you buy another month. If you don’t, you don’t. We think the industry-standard “free for 7 days, then $24/month forever unless you find the cancel button buried under five clicks” pattern is hostile to job seekers.

How your data is handled

Short version: when you’re editing anonymously, your resume lives in your browser’s localStorage and never reaches our servers. When you sign in for cloud sync, the resume text is stored in our database so you can edit it across devices.

Your profile photo is treated separately and more strictly: the image bytes never leave your browser, even when you’re signed in. Face images are unusually sensitive, and the right way to handle them is to never take possession in the first place. The downloaded PDF/Word file is generated on your device with the photo baked in — we never see it, we never store it, we never back it up.
