How to pick the right resume template
The single most important thing in resume design is ATS parsability. Roughly 75% of resumes submitted to large employers are filtered by an Applicant Tracking System before a human ever sees them. An ATS-friendly template uses single-column content flow (even if it visually looks like two columns), standard section headings (Experience, Education, Skills), and embedded text inside the PDF rather than rasterized graphics.
Beyond parsability, the right template depends on your industry:
- Conservative industries (finance, law, government, healthcare) — Classic or Minimal. Serif or restrained sans-serif, centered or left-aligned headings, no color accents.
