The Elegant resume template is for environments where how your materials feel is part of the evaluation. A warm amber highlight underlines the name and section headings; a refined serif display face gives the header weight while the body stays practical in clean sans. Spacing is slightly more generous than Modern, which gives the page the feeling of a letter rather than a spec sheet.

It is the template that lands particularly well at European hiring desks — Continental recruiters consistently prefer designs that lean traditional with a thoughtful touch. Among our templates, Elegant scores highest on European recruiter-feedback in informal trials. It is also the natural pick for senior client-facing roles in hospitality, luxury, and PR, where the resume reads as part of the brand it is applying to.

About the Elegant template

Elegant is the template you pick when the brand you're applying to cares about how things look and how things sound. A warm amber highlight signals the name and section headings; a serif display face gives the header weight while the body stays practical in clean sans. Spacing is slightly more generous than Modern, which gives the page the feeling of a letter more than a spec sheet. Standard margins and parsing order keep ATS parsers happy. Among our templates, Elegant scores the highest on European recruiter feedback we've collected in informal trials.

Who uses the Elegant template

Elegant is reached for by management consultants (especially MBB applicants targeting European offices), senior hospitality and hotel-management leaders, luxury-retail and fashion executives, PR and communications directors, and any senior client-facing role where written materials are part of the first impression. It also serves well for any candidate primarily applying to European employers — the template is read as 'thoughtfully composed' on the Continent more than 'old-fashioned.' Skip it for pure-tech roles where Modern or Metro signal product-culture fit better, and for early-career applications where the sophistication reads as misplaced.

Representative roles

  • Management Consultant (MBB / Big Four)
  • Hotel General Manager / Hospitality Director
  • Luxury Retail / Fashion Executive
  • PR Director / Senior Comms Strategist
  • Senior Client Partner (advisory)
  • Account Director (creative agency, EU-based)

Best for

  • Management consultants (MBB, Big Four)
  • Hospitality and hotel management
  • Luxury retail and fashion
  • PR and communications
  • Senior client-facing roles
  • Candidates applying to European employers

Skip it if

  • Pure tech roles (feels old-world)
  • Early-career — the sophistication reads as misplaced

When to use the Elegant template

Choose Elegant for management consulting (especially European MBB offices), hospitality, luxury, fashion, PR, and senior client-facing roles where how your materials feel is part of the evaluation. It's also a strong match for anyone applying primarily to European employers — Continental recruiters tend to prefer templates that lean slightly traditional with a thoughtful touch. Skip Elegant for pure-tech roles where Modern or Metro signals product-culture fit better, and for early-career applicants — the template's sophistication can feel put-on when the content underneath it is light.

Customising the Elegant template

Small tweaks that signal craft without breaking ATS parsing.

1. Use the amber highlight sparingly

Elegant's amber accent (#b45309) is meant to appear under the name, the section headings, and nowhere else. Some users tint bullet markers, dates, or sub-headings the same colour — that's overplaying the hand. The whole point of the accent is that it's used with restraint, signalling deliberate choice rather than decoration.

2. Keep the serif display face for headers only

The body type is a clean sans for parseability and readability; the serif appears only at the H1 (your name) and possibly the H2 (section labels). Mixing the serif into bullet text or dates erodes the formal/practical balance Elegant strikes. Keep the body strictly sans.

3. Format dates the European way if you are applying in Europe

'September 2018 — present' reads more naturally on the Continent than 'Sept 2018 - Present.' Spell out the month, use the en-dash with thin spaces around it, and capitalise 'Present' only at sentence start. These are tiny details — but Elegant's audience is the audience that notices.

Common pitfalls when using Elegant

Specific failure modes for this template (different from generic resume mistakes).

1. Treating Elegant as a creative-design template

Elegant is not Creative. The amber accent is a signal of refinement, not expressiveness. Adding additional graphic elements, icon flourishes, or coloured boxes pulls the template toward Bold's territory and away from its strength. If you want a more visually expressive design, Creative or Gradient are purpose-built for that.

2. Using Elegant for early-career applications

The template's sophistication only reads as appropriate when there's a substantive career underneath. Two years of experience under an Elegant template reads as putting on airs. Switch to Fresher (purpose-built for early-career) or Modern (clean and seniority-neutral) until you have 5+ years.

3. Mismatched serif fonts between header and body

Some users swap the default serif for a different one (Garamond, Palatino, Caslon, etc.) and end up with a header that reads as a different document from the body. If you change the display serif, test the result side-by-side with the body sans — the two need to feel like they belong to the same composition.

Elegant resume template FAQ

Is the Elegant resume template ATS-friendly?
Yes — 5/5 on our ATS parsing tests. Single-column reading order, standard fonts (with safe sans + serif fallbacks), the amber accent renders as a CSS border that ATS parsers strip cleanly without affecting reading order. Tested against Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, and Taleo.
What jobs is the Elegant resume template best for?
Management consulting (especially European MBB / Big Four offices), hospitality and luxury hotel management, fashion / luxury retail leadership, PR and communications, and senior client-facing advisory roles. Also a strong default for candidates applying primarily to European employers across many industries. Skip for pure-tech roles, sales-floor positions, or early-career applications.
Does Elegant work for non-European applications?
Yes, particularly for senior consulting, hospitality, luxury, and PR roles in any region. The template's design language travels well into US East Coast traditional industries (finance, professional services). It is less well-matched for US West Coast tech and Australian creative-tech roles, where Modern, Metro, or Creative communicate cultural fit better.
Can Elegant handle a two-page resume?
Yes — the template scales gracefully across two pages. The serif headline + sans body system reads cleanly at length, the amber accent line repeats consistently on page 2, and the slightly generous spacing means the second page does not feel crowded. Use two pages when 8+ years of experience genuinely require the room.
