The keyword list is a tailoring checklist, not a script. Don’t copy-paste keywords into a Skills section and call it done — recruiters skim past dense skill walls and real ATS systems weigh context, not just presence.

Start with the top 5-10 keywords.Pick the ones that genuinely describe work you’ve done, then weave them into your bullets using the verb + noun + measurable outcome pattern. “Built REST APIs serving 2B requests at 99.95% uptime” lands harder than “REST API” sitting alone in a skill block.

Cover the role-specific jargon.The JD-specific terms section catches words that aren’t in our standard vocabulary but appear repeatedly in this specific posting — usually role names, internal team labels, or company-language. Mirroring them shows you read the JD carefully.

Use the detected industry.If the detected industry surprises you, take it as a signal — maybe the JD is targeting a different domain than you expected, or maybe your resume isn’t aligned with how this company describes the role.

Then run the scanner. After updating your resume against this JD, take it to the ATS resume scanner to check how it stacks up against the broader industry vocabulary — not just this single posting.
